One of the best ways to learn about a city's history and culture is by going sightseeing. But what if you could find everything that is to be seen under one roof? Make the most of the Arendal trip and stop by KUBEN during your stay. The museum was established in 1832 and is one of the oldest museums in Norway. Since 2015, the museum has housed a modern museum building where you will find 3 floors filled with exhibitions. The museum has a large collection of objects, photos and archives that are connected to the city's history in various ways. There is so much to see and learn here that you can easily spend several hours strolling from one exhibition to another. The exhibitions are both educational and interactive, so that the experiences are varied and entertaining. During the summer holidays, there are daily guided tours of the exhibitions. Permanent exhibitions at KUBEN: Signs of Life, Slave Made, Childhood, The Crack in Arendal 1886 and Arne Vinje Gunnerud's sculpture. In addition to permanent exhibitions, they also have several changing exhibitions. Join the slave ship Fredensborg on the last voyage to the shipwreck off Arendal in 1767. In the exhibition you can see finds from the wreck, and follow the dramatic story of a ship loaded with slaves. In the exhibition Livstegn you can experience Agder from the Stone Age to the Viking Age. Here we show some of the exciting objects we have from these periods. Beautiful jewelry, Viking swords, Stone Age axes, ceramics and flint tools. If you have children on the trip, they are guaranteed to love the exhibition Childhood. Here you can travel back in time and experience childhood in the 1910s, 1960s and 1990s. The exhibition is packed with fun and engaging activities such as hoisting sails, singing in the hairbrush, joining morning gymnastics, or watching children's TV in black and white! In addition to visiting the exhibition, children can also participate in treasure hunts, where they receive a small prize at the end. Throughout July, children can join the summer workshop. The best thing is that children under the age of 16 have free admission to the museum! You can also find fun old-fashioned toys and games in the museum shop. How to get here? By bus: You can take the following buses from Arendal center to the nearest stop for the museum - 110, 113 and 150. To get back to the center you can take bus number 112 or 150. By car: There are good, free parking options at KUBEN. On foot: It takes about 20 minutes to walk to the museum from the center.
