The Royal Palace

The Royal Palace

The spectacular Royal Palace is the official residence of the Norwegian royalty, HM King Harald V and HM Queen Sonja, and one of the popular attractions in Oslo. Selected rooms in the palace are open for public viewing in summer.

Get a glimpse of the lives of the royals when you visit this attraction. The foundation stone of the palace was laid in 1825 and was completed years later in 1849. Over the years, the palace has had additions, renovations, and restorations to fix the wear and tear of the structure and to accommodate more family members. When you book a guided tour, you will be shown many of the rooms in the palace, including the large Ballroom, the Banqueting Hall, the Bird Room, the Cabinet Parlour, the Palace Chapel, and the King Haakon VII Suite. Marvel at the tall pillars, stunning paintings, ceiling murals, massive chandeliers, exquisite furniture, and so much more – every piece of article is a work of art here! Annual exhibitions take place here with a unique theme for each year. For instance, the exhibition in 2019 was titled 'When Queens Meet'. A range of beautiful ballgowns and evening dresses worn by Norwegian queens were showcased for the event. Tours are available in both Norwegian and English.
