One of the best ways to know about a city's history is to travel across its ancient places. In this activity, you will uncover historical moments of Tromsø and know why it is known as the 'Gateway to the Arctic'! Discover Tromsø and its legendary history in FRAMTours' walking trip around the city's popular attractions. Participants must arrive at the Clarion Hotel The Edge meeting point 15 minutes before the activity begins. At 11:30 am, the trip starts from the backstreets of Tromsø, where you will visit historical areas that have contributed to the city's image of being the hub of polar expeditions. The route is adventurous yet straightforward enough to spellbind you with its varying elevations. The highlight of this sightseeing tour is the Polar Museum, in the halls of which you will get an idea about popular arctic expeditions from decades ago. The museum sheds light on how Amudsen became a legend after much struggle to reach the South Pole. Listen to tales of explorers who pioneered risky journeys to bring back rare skins and other artefacts from far-end arctic zones. Experience the adventurous life of those who embarked on whaling trips to Spitzbergen, one of the famous islands of Svalbard. The last leg of the tour is a trek to the top of Fjelheisen, where you can take a breather and enjoy a warm drink while gazing at the spectacular views of the city. Participants can also relish tasty homemade delicacies like the blueberry pie from a local delicatessen here. If the weather is good, you will also go to Sherpatrappa and descend its stairway overlooking the fjord and its stunning waterfront. This photo tour is suitable for people of all ages, but contact the tour provider while booking the activity if you wish to bring children below four years old.
Participants are requested to wear weather-appropriate clothes and also bring warm accessories along.
