Full description

One of the best things about travelling is the possibility of discovering different communities and cultures. Add a new dimension to your perception of life by learning about the indigenous people of Sami, who have lived in Northern Norway for centuries. Book this tour by Sami Siida and engage in the fascinating life of the only community that thrived in the Arctic Circle even before the Vikings! On the tour day, participants have to come to the Sami Siida centre at Øvre, Alta and meet their guide for the day. After a brief introduction to the activity, you will be taken to the Siida, where the activity takes place. Here you will meet the Sami reindeer herders, who keep their ancient traditions alive in Northern Norway to this day! In this 1-hour guided tour, you will learn how the Samis have been living in the extreme weather conditions. Their survival history is inspirational and is one of the key takeaways from this experience. You will also learn the various aspects of the Sapmi culture and how it has remained authentic even after passing through hundreds of generations! After the guiding session, participants will be taken to a lavvo, where your hosts will entertain you with their traditional music called yoik. Listen to the relaxing notes of their songs while munching on delicious Siida cake along with a cup of warm coffee or tea.

Extras

Dress in weather-appropriate clothing and bring along warm accessories if needed. Additional food and beverages (alcohol and soft drinks) are available on request at an extra cost. The tour provider also arranges transport to the Siida Camp (charges apply).
